normalize Ad volume with content volume
Not as frequently as before but still often, Ads play which are dramatically louder than the broadcast content. This is an annoyance, interferes with other people in the house, and frankly makes me more likely to mute the ad and go do something in a different tab.
Normalizing volume levels with stream average volume or peak volume wouldn't take a huge amount of processing power and would fix the problem entirely. It's required by the US's FCC in other broadcast mediums, but it's really just a quality of life improvement for the viewers and a mark of good production.

Setting this to a partial release status as the majority of ads on web and TV apps should now have normalized sound. We are still continuing the work on this and will update the status again when it is fully complete!

I live in an apartment, and the when ads come on with their super high bass, I have to very quickly crank down the audio or risk the wrath of the neighbors. Please find a way to fix this volume problem. Not to mention wearing headphones and being subjected to painful volume jumps.

Have ads with low volume for streams with the ASMR tags or channel.

You SERIOUSLY need to fix the volume levels on your ads. All weekend long I’ve had to deal with commercials that are LITERALLY FOUR TIMES LOUDER than the tournament stream I’ve been watching. I’m going to stop using your program altogether soon because of your cancerous advertisement spam with broken volume levels. Not only are they too loud, but the excessive ads are constantly cutting off the first stock in numerous matches I’m trying to watch. It’s cutting short an entire third of the battle! Seriously corrupt advertising methods. NEEDS to be fixed.

Agreed, completely pisses me off, very rude way for Twitch to treat viewers. Slime

I support this. As a viewer, I despise the excessive amount, length and repetitiveness of ads in general but if us viewers can't get the numbers to make Twitch change their ad system more reasonably, I'd think a volume balance would be at least a step in the right direction. I find myself hitting the mute button on my device every time one or a series of ads come on because they are just WAY too freaking loud. It's very annoying and disruptive. I leave streams all the time because of it. I've actually started viewing more Mixer streamers because it's ad free, at least for now. I understand that ads support streamers but they are just too excessive and everything about them is offputting to viewers like myself. Besides, I don't support the "consume obey conform" by throwing something in your face concept. If I'm in the market for something I'll consider your product. If your ads annoy the shit out of me, I will never support your brand and/or products. I'd rather be without Twitch than have Twitch with its ad system in it's overall current state.

This is driving me nuts. I'm watching a twitch stream at a nice relaxing volume, then an ad comes on and its three times louder. A few times it feels like it nearly blows out my speakers and bothers my neighbors.
Figure it out, Twitch! Match the ad volume to the stream volume level, its not that hard!

I honestly think i got tinitus since i got an add while watching a ASMR vod. The add volume is way higher but i already put the sound on max. Now i got a constant beep in my left ear. Maybe fix this so further casualties will be saved.

Ads Suck commented
The recent increase in ad volume is intolerable - that is why I am no longer going to be using the twitch services - you've gone the way of youtube and they suck with the ads also.

In some cases, might be that the volume of the video that is too low. In any case, there should be a way for twitch to detect and equalize both volumes. I wonder how YouTube deal with this issue.

Its volume compared to the streamers is much louder than them so everytime it comes on it literally scares me, im at the point where id rather just leave twitch until the worldcup is over.

Ads that come in full volume instantly turn me off to the advertisement's message. Particularly when I'm watching streams with lower volume or higher dynamic range and I have my volume raised.

There are tons of people complaining about the volume of ads. I'm far from alone on this. And I get it. People payed you to show us that ad and have us hear its audio. That's fine too. But the complaints won't stop just because you're paid. I have a solution that would make both parties happy. A volume bar with a minimum of 5-15%. You're a multi-million dollar company now, so now you need to live up to that expectation and stop acting like some up and coming experimental service.

That's an easy workaround to the problem. I can't believe I hadn't figured it out myself.
Thanks!

Turn the stream volume all the way up and adjust it to where you want with the windows volume mixer?

I usually watch twitch streams with maybe 30% volume and play a game in an other window at the same time with game volume on 100%.
The thing is that you are pushing those ads with 100% volume regardless of actual stream being set to 30%. It's like a slap across my face when you do that - it's truly annoying not to mention unprofessional. It definitely doesn't make me any interested in the advertised product. On the contrary, I would never purchase anything which is "force fed" to me in that manner. An absolute disgrace.
I've read that people has complained about this for years already. Apparently you are not interested in the bad feedback. You rather enforce the pathetic design. Such a shame..

The volume of the ad's really start to bother me now. It is at the moment the only reason why I more often than not just use the browser to watch streams (which has volume controll and even ad-block). The volume is way over the top when listening with headphones. But I'd gladly watch ads if they don't kill my hearing because the Twitch app is way more convenient.

Ads don't just play louder. They completely ignore any and all volume settings.
Why have a volume slider if you're going to ignore it. Which is a guaranteed deafening when using headphones or guaranteed angry neighbours when using speakers.
