normalize Ad volume with content volume
Not as frequently as before but still often, Ads play which are dramatically louder than the broadcast content. This is an annoyance, interferes with other people in the house, and frankly makes me more likely to mute the ad and go do something in a different tab.
Normalizing volume levels with stream average volume or peak volume wouldn't take a huge amount of processing power and would fix the problem entirely. It's required by the US's FCC in other broadcast mediums, but it's really just a quality of life improvement for the viewers and a mark of good production.
A majority of ads on web and TV apps should now have normalized sound. We are still continuing the work on this and will update the status again when it is fully complete!

Nothing fixed here, Alienware Ad just keeps shredding my ears

Definitely not fixed. Had ear buds in and a commercial actually startled the **** out of me it was so loud.
Laws prevent TV commercials from being louder than the content. What made Twitch think do it with their commercials was wise?

Unfortunately still not fixed. Ads are way too loud compared to the regular content.

Yes please!! It is painful to have the headphone volume up to hear a nice soft ASMRtist and then abruptly LOUD AD plays

It's been more than 6 months since the official response (5 years since the original post). Progress report?

DO NOT PLAY THE SAME AD AT THE SAME VOLUME TO ME AGAIN! Lower the volume for that ad for me form then on.

This is obnoxious. One ad is inline with the stream and we listen. The second is not so we mute.
Dont abuse your advertising audience .

So Twitch really doesn't give a **** about this illegal behavior? It's 2020 now. Do we really need to take you to court, too?
From a technical standpoint, this issue is easy to solve. What's the hold up here? -

I actually stopped watching twitch because of this, I mean look at the date of the post, may 2015, its now 2019, they didnt care about your hearing for a good 4 years. some of you might have earlier hearing loss because of it. Its absolutely ridiculous it took them this long for this change.

I am going back to YouTube and live TV if you do not lower the amount of ads that are played and the VOLUME the ads are played. It is terrible to see the same **** ad over and over again for something I will NEVER use or buy every 5 mins. Is what makes matters worse is the fact that the VOLUME screams at you for something I will never use or buy. As a matter of fact, I will never buy Ice Breakers again because I am sick of their breakthrough advert YELLING AT ME FOR 30 **** SECONDS!!! Fix the volume and the amount of ads. If it seems as though I am yelling randomly through CAPS, I am not. You are merely hearing an advert!

This absolutely needs to be addressed. It's impossible to wear headphones and watch twitch now because some of these ads are so loud it's painful (like actually physically painful). Sort this out now.

This would do a great deal to improve the twitch experience. The ads don't have to be silenced but normalizing the volume level would make the experience far better.
This may also help users discover new streamers. The first impression of a streamer is extremely important for being able to retain a viewer. If an ad is so loud that you turn off the stream, that viewer may never discover that stream again.

Normalization of ad playback volume with the stream average volume would be a MASSIVE quality of life improvement for viewers. Some ads I've experienced are absolutely obscenely loud, and advertisers would love to know that viewers would be able to comfortably hear their ad at a similar volume to the actual content without competing with the inconsistent volumes of other ads.
