normalize Ad volume with content volume
Not as frequently as before but still often, Ads play which are dramatically louder than the broadcast content. This is an annoyance, interferes with other people in the house, and frankly makes me more likely to mute the ad and go do something in a different tab.
Normalizing volume levels with stream average volume or peak volume wouldn't take a huge amount of processing power and would fix the problem entirely. It's required by the US's FCC in other broadcast mediums, but it's really just a quality of life improvement for the viewers and a mark of good production.
A majority of ads on web and TV apps should now have normalized sound. We are still continuing the work on this and will update the status again when it is fully complete!

I set my volume to a value that is acceptable for casual viewing. When ads play, my volume setting increases without my permission, and is particularly frustrating when the volume remains elevated after the ads finish. I suspect you cannot prevent ads from increasing the volume, but at least revert the change when the ads are done so I don't have to hear the stream from across the house.

Kinda sad there haven't been any other updates from the looks of the comments below. I was recently deafened by an ad that was 10x louder than the stream at 11 at night. Please have a fix soon or close to one.

Please normalize the ad volume. When listening to a streamer the ad volume is joltingly loud especially when listening on headphones. Even from one ad to another ad there is a huge difference in volume that is also unpleasant. It would be even better if the add volume would be normalized to the streamers volume, to a point.

Please patch me. The ad is too loud. The sound is so different from the streamer sound blaster. It hurts my ears when I first enter.

Is there any update to this yet? I'm in the same boat as milissaellen1966, watching @Kitboga has been my favorite thing to do during work, but I may switch over to YouTube entirely because the ads just just unreasonably loud. I recommend that the Twitch team take a listen themselves to see how awful it truly is.

It is unbelievably loud and if I didn't love and need @kitboga so much, I would NEVER put up with this !!!!! It is actually painful when the ads come on !!!! And why so many ads in a row that you cannot skip????!!!! So annoying. Kit should just go create a podcast platform and leave Twitch entirely.

I won't be using Twitch to watch content until this is fixed. I've had a lot of hearing issues because of Twitch ads and it doesn't seem like they are working on this issue or care at all.

How is this still an issue? Does no one at Twitch have computers to watch streams and then have their ear drums blown out so they can hop on fixing this? Christ just drop the volume by 50% to start on all ads then tweak from there. Can't be this hard.

Ads are still extremely loud, especially the Adobe one (when "Don't Stop Me Now" starts playing it blows out my speakers). Please do something about this.

To quote mouse: "Setting this to a partial release status as the majority of ads on web and TV apps should now have normalized sound."
I can confirm that the majority of the ads I have don't have normalized sound. Some ads are OK volume wise, but the majority are too loud. As soon as an ad comes up I need to mute the stream because it's too much. I'm pretty sure your advertisers don't want their ads auto-muted as soon as they come up.

Your ads are extremely loud compared to streamer volume. I'm actually worried my hardware will get blown out when an ad plays. Please fix please please 🙏🙏

Why is twitch allowing ads that are so loud that they cause physical pain for users with headphones? This complaint has been happening for over 5years and I would have hoped you'd take hearing damage more seriously than this. The volume jump from stream to ad is ridiculous.

I don't think people should have their ears blown out if they are watching a stream that is a little quieter, and then get their ears blown out when an ad starts to play.

Can you change it back from partial release? Because I really haven't noticed it until today, but like 3 of the ads throughout an hour stream made me throw my headset off because they almost blew out my eardrums. And since there isn't really a warning, especially if you just have a stream you're listening to while doing other things, it can catch people off guard. This is kind of ridiculous. You force us to watch this stuff full screen, and are now liable for physical harm at this point.
