Remove mid-roll ads
Cancel the testing of mid-roll ads on affiliate and partner channels. Your viewer base doesn't want this and creators don't want ads playing out of their control interrupting their content
As we announced on Twitter earlier, we have concluded the mid-rolls experiment. Thank you all for your comments and the incredible momentum you’ve contributed to this topic.
There have been many great suggestions, both in this thread and in the Ads forum that we have taken back to the team for consideration. It’s important to know that ads are essential to the future of Twitch, however we want to make things as painless as possible. Please still upvote, share, comment, and create new ideas in this forum so that we may continue to benefit from all of your passionate influence.

cease and desist. this is a bad idea. in the twitch chat i am in most, we often interact with the streamer and disguss ..... anything basically. ads would need to be at the same time for everyone and controlled by the steamer, which does not work since subs exist. i think the system as it is right now is perfect and should under no circumstances be altered.

Yea don't do this. You arent helping Creators with this you are only encouraging adblock usage. Nobody but twitch is really benefitting from this.

It should be MY decision to run ads during the content that I create. Especially since I try to engage with viewers running ads in the middle of a conversation just doesn't make sense at all. It's frustrating. Non-subs already have to watch ads when turning on a stream.

Adds are already annoying as it currently is. Do not force anybody, be it streamers or viewers, to watch these, especially when there might be some hype moments happening and you just get interrupted by a random stupid add nobody asked for.
Try to improve on things people have actually been asking for for years instead of finding new features literally nobody cares for.

Adverts annoy everyone and this will really harm new creators in particular. I know money talks, and I've personally had ads from the UK government, but I need a break from the propaganda machine, not have it leached into twitch as well.

I understand (though I dislike) pre roll ads. Kind of an entry ticket either you get an ad or you're a sub and can skip it.
Twitch is a content creation platform. How on earth can you determine when the stream needs a break? Why impose more ads on your viewers when it is known to break interest in streams?
As a small content creator it matters a lot if even one viewer leaves my stream. I dislike ads and purposefully don't do ad breaks because I want to give my viewers the best experience possible and interrupting my stream is NOT the best I can give my viewers. -

This is the exact right way to get me off of the platform. I'm probably not the only one you'll drive away. I understand that advertisement is quite important, but there are limits. The way to loud mid-rolls in vods are pretty nasty already and you seem to make them even louder constantly. I stopped watching vods by now. But this is just.. ew. There are other platforms, although Twitch has always been my favorite. I really don't like and even mistrust the direction we're going here, however.

This is a step back even from conventional TV, where ad breaks are planned out. Even live show ads are put at uncritical moments.
Here, it can and WILL run ads for people at critical moments. I run a race restreaming service. Do I really want mid rolls with my viewers not being able to see the end of a nailbiting 4 hour Randomizer match??
There's so many non intrusive ad ways. What were you even thinking.

For many streamers, like myself, interaction with the viewers is more important than the game I'm playing. Imagine asking a streamer a question and as they are answering you an ad starts to play. How would that make you feel? Now you have to wait for the add and let the streamer know that while they were talking an ad rolled so you couldn't hear them. Not only is the viewer frustrated, but the streamer (me) is also frustrated because I have to then repeat what I was saying.
Imagine you are running through an hour long raid and there's been a few amazing moments but the few viewers you have (I'm a very small streamer) didn't get to see those moments and react to them because ads were rolling.
Imagine you actually do run ad breaks once in a while but make less than $1/month from ad revenue.
I'm sure Twitch is already aware that a fairly high % of people leave a stream during a pre-roll ad. What makes you think more viewers won't start leaving streams/twitch when they begin getting ad rolls during the middle of the stream without any warning from the streamer?
There has to be a better way to monetize than surprising viewers with ads. If I give you my pre-roll and ad-break revenue can I opt my channel out of the mid-rolls?
If you insist on running the ads, make the ads the small picture in the picture-by-picture. In other words, don't ruin the stream content.

This is awful and shouldn't even be an "experiment." Taking control from streamers in how they run ads is bad enough, but forcing midrolls that mute streamers entirely is only going to harm our content. People watch because they enjoy what we have to say. Not to mention the fact that ad revenue is practically worthless for streamers, this move doesn't benefit us at all. No one asked for this, no one needs this, and no one wants this.

Why would you interrupt something live, for mid roll ads? Do you not understand what your own platform is?

Mid-roll ads is the most invasive idea you could possibly come up with. They will interrupt the flow of the stream, and may even discourage potential viewers from channels that are trying to grow. It's the streamer that should have control on the ads in the middle of their streams, and you should definitely not interrupt someone's show with them. It is honestly a really bad idea community-wise. You definitely heard that preroll ads are bad (and they are, quite a lot, for small channels it's a disaster), but mid-roll ads are just horrendous. People are watching twitch EXACTLY because there are no mid-roll ads, and channels that have them usually use them as a really short break.
So far no one is happy with the idea. So please, reconsider. -

Pre-rolls have been illustrated to damage growth for smaller creators like myself, and mid rolls will do the same. I earn mere pennies from ads. It is NOT worth it at all. Please listen to the streamers on your platform for once, and do not implement this. Likewise, as a music streamer, having ads play in the middle of my performances without any way of controlling them is completely ridiculous. Ads, whether that be concerning pre-rolls or mid-rolls should be fully controlled by the streamer, or, the viewer should be able to chose when they watch an ad to support the streamer. Saying that you can disable pre-rolls by running ads is not a viable solution to this. We need to be able to completely disable ads if we so wish too. Overall, ads negatively impact my experience whilst streaming.

Yes, please remove mid-roll ads. I want to provide quality content to my viewers. If they randomly get ads in the middle of what I am doing this is interrupting their experience and may push them away from me. I do not run a lot of ads on my channel, but I control when I do. This ensures that I can provide the best content I can, and that the ads don't interupt the story and gameplay of what I am doing. This takes away my agency, viewer enjoyment due to interupts as well as hampers my ability to interact with my viewers.

Twitch should focus more on pushing amazon prime and to integrate both services more with each other. Watch parties was a good idea, more of things like that please. Ads will just hurt smaller and medium streamers and the viewing experience. Twitch will lose viewers and or people will start using ad block more. This move would hurt the platform long term so I'm against implementing these midsole ads.

How am I supposed to catch up with the streamed content, when the ad hit? Will you pause the stream? Great, Chat and Video are out of sync, now. Guess I have to reload the stream. Nice, another ad before I can continue watching.
Jeff must really need that money...

1) Main reason i dont want ADS I dont own a TV so i dont have to see the repeated rubbish including ADS
2) My viewers dont want to see the ADS either on twitch
3) Them ADS you spam across your own platform dont help small streamers what so ever.
4) This really annoys the majority of your viewer base on any platform
5) Dont you also think that running a AD takes away the VIEWER from the Streamer where some thing crazy might of just happened and they missed it due to a silly AD that no one wants to watch !!!
6) Don't you think by now that most of us run AD blockers to stop this

I swear rhey're trying to get me to turn adblock on again. I really don't mind seeing a few reasonably timed ads, but this **** is going to get them blocked again.
