Please don't block the video stream with Ads
In the middle of watching someone's exciting steam, an ad pops up covering the entire video while chat continues. Chat is then going crazy because something awesome just happened, yet we were unable to see it because an ad was covering the video stream. What a disappointment.
Make the ad go into a corner with sound or something, but please do not block the whole image. That's the reason why we are here, to watch the steamers. You want the ads for monetary gain, fine, but find a happy medium where you don't disappoint your customers. Badly placed ads drive more people away than keeps them.
Just wanted to update this thread that we are doing an experiment right now with Stream Display Ads!
These are less disruptive ads that allow viewers to see and hear Creators while being displayed. Creators will receive ad revenue for each SDA shown.
You can find out more information here: https://twitter.com/TwitchSupport/status/1422255927483318277
@dowski I am currently getting these ads even though I am subscribed (which shrink away once I move my mouse -- very cool and not at all infuriating experience).
I'll assume this is a bug, as I have also gotten regular ads at times, crazy how Twitch managed to fudge that up golly gee darn. If it is intended behavior this will be the straw that causes me to abandon subscriptions and instead watch vods on youtube.
Imagine if you were watching tv and you switched to the channel your show was on, lets say 9:00PM, and right when it started *bam* 2 minute ad. Now try to Imagine how many people would not only just change the channel, but not bother to change it back... Now lets add to this idea and say this was live tv...
I'm no business major, but even I with my novice abilities can see how f'n stupid that is.
I don't know what idiots (being extremely nice with this description) twitch is paying that are pushing this and think this is a great idea, but all of them should be fired immediately.
The incompetence is astounding. Even the link provided by the admin saying 'here's an update', is just an empty link to twitter, instead of the link to the forums with the actual information... which interestingly enough doesn't have preroll mentioned in the FAQ... pardon me while I laugh sarcastically.
Let me guess, their wonderful experiments are the reason I'm getting the purple screen of doom again.
Get real Twitch, I will use the site less to avoid this.
Ads are sucks for small countries ash The netherlands and belgium.
with viewers between 0 - 30 , ads walk viewers away big FAQ
Twitch morroons will more dollars.
Bits, subs, is not enotch for twitch moroons will more and more and more.
subs 50% twitch 50% Creator
Bits it same.
And now tey spam full ads , and pre ads. Twitch is more ad platform then stream platform
@ArakATK yeah, like having 11 active subs wasn't enough for an ad-free experience on all of twitch. There is a difference between sustainable and greedy.
Guys, you must understand that the point of running your own ads to shut down pre-roll and mid-roll ads is to give you control over when the ads play so that your community doesn't see an interruption. Since SDA's don't cause an interruption it doesn't make sense for them to affect pre-roll and mid-roll ads. You already have the tools to control that. What it's more likely to do is give Twitch the flexibility to run said ads -less obnoxiously frequently- if and when they are rolled out at scale.
Also please knock it off with telling them we just hate ads, don't run ads, they're a company, they must remain solvent or we all loose a place to stream. And having that place DOES benefit us all as streamers. If you have suggestions as to how one can utilize ads more effectively, less obnoxiously, then yes, please suggest them, not that Twitch will listen, but just saying do away with ads and stop telling us to not use adblock is not beneficial, subscriptions can't sustain twitch at this scale.
Pre-roll ads turn me away from new channels.
Mid-roll ads turn me away from new channels.
These interruptions do more harm than good for streamers, especially new streamers trying to build their communities. I understand that Twitch needs revenue, but driving away viewers is not the way to do it.
The new Stream Display Ads are an improvement, but only as a REPLACEMENT for pre-roll and especially automatic mid-roll ads, not in addition to.
SDA's are a step in the right direction, but please just remove pre-roll adds or at least make the SDA's count towards their time. Pre-rolls are the most disruptive thing about adds on this platform and right now SDA's aren't solving that problem.
Four years, and nearly to the day in fact, between this suggestion/feedback and "oh hey, we're rolling out something slightly less obtrusive"... and yet, they don't count for pre-roll blocking (as per the article linked at the end of the tweet in the reply from the admin), the entire reason several streamers I watch even run ads in the first place.
Too little too late. It's a step in the right direction (a tiny one, after reading the details that you didn't mention), but it's coming one full year after being more aggressive on the intruding ads and after spending development time into fighting the adblocks instead of fixing any of the countless technical issues that Twitch has.
So, I'll keep my adblocks on, and I'll keep supporting streamers exclusively through paypal donations to ensure Twitch doesn't get a cut (to anyone reading this - if you paypal a streamer 5 bucks, they receive 5 bucks, while if you pay 5 bucks to subscribe, they only receive 2.5 while Twitch takes the other half).
We need better change and faster.
Bruh, just get rid of the ads. Get rid of the purple screen of death.
Related to your ad insertions: whether on Twitch or another site, we get the purple blockade. Using ad-block methods have become reasonable to avoid malicious advertising and advertising-related scripts. Telling us not to use them is akin to saying "turn off your firewall and play in traffic". Now we have streams interrupted telling us to go to Twitch (where we may already be) to be interrupted by ads, the same purple blockade, or other disruptions.
Way to take 4 years to acknowledge how much we hate ads. I come to watch certain streams, not to watch unrelated (and perhaps deceptive/offensive content) paid for placement by profit-obsessed organizations that takes the place of the desired content which continues in progress. It's not like you pause the stream with a buffer... it's SKIPPED until we get a chance to watch the replay video, if that's even worth doing.
I like the idea of SDA. Much of it is very good. I would like to see them impact pre-roll ads, though.
The display ads have nothing to do with pre-rol ads.. they won’t replace them, it’s just additional ads
Agreed. I don't watch streams anymore because they're blocked for like 30 seconds by an annoying Amazon ad. We know what audible is.
I don't sub or gift or anything anymore unless it's prime or through streamlabs purely out of spite from ads.
I don't mind the ADS at all but don't cut the stream to show me a 15s AD it's a stream I missed some important moment because of this so, please make the AD and stream play together if you can or find something that does not break the stream while I watch it
Make the ad go above chat, not the stream.
using adblock ( 3 of them), never had a single ad in the last 3 months,
download adblocks, and i agree that Twitch Ads are dogsht, those used to always popup when something was happening on streamers screen, shame on twitch, shame on amazon for ruining customer experience
Why are mid-rolls back? This is a terrible idea and Twitch knows it. The only mid-rolls should be ones manually triggered by the streamer, not automatic ones.
