Change revenue split between streamers and lower payout minimums

I believe these recommendations combined would positively make a huge impact for every streamer and supporter.

Change the payout split between streamers and Twitch. Right now affiliates and most partners only get a 50% split from a Twitch subscriptions ($2.50 USD). I would like to see all streamers get a minimum 70% revenue split from subscriptions with a higher revenue split for all partners 80%. Currently both Facebook and YouTube streamers get a 70% split from subscriptions (and they have the option to create custom subscriber tiers with Youtube).

In addition, I would like to see Twitch lower its payout minimum which is currently $100 USD to $10 - $20 USD. A $100 USD payout is the equivalent to 40 subscriptions not including bits or ad revenue. For the smaller streamers to benefit from that financial support a viewer gives them, they need to be able to actually receive it in a reasonable amount of time.

To put this in perspective: Amazon Affiliates monthly payout minimum is 10 USD (they also give the option to pay out with gift cards) and Patreon's monthly payout minimum is only 3 USD.

Hey everyone -

Firstly, we want to thank SaltyWyvern for posting this request, and the 22k+ of you who have supported it with your votes, comments, and shares. We have been blown away by the response to this post, and have been carefully considering it for the better part of the last year. As there are actually two asks in this post, we will address them individually.

For the primary request of increasing the revenue share split to 70/30, the standard revenue share for subscriptions is 50/50, and we do not have plans to change the standard revenue share. We understand that this is disappointing for many of you, but we’d like to provide some reasoning behind the decision. To quote our President, Dan Clancy, from the blog we posted today:

“When we first established a 50/50 revenue share split, it was to signal that we’re in this together. You all do the amazing work you do to create great content, engage with your audience, and grow communities. On our side of the partnership, it’s our responsibility to make continuous investments in the products and people that make your growth possible.

As you probably heard by now, we’re in the middle of rolling out the largest change to payouts in years by cutting the payout threshold in half to $50. This is an important middle step that will help streamers put money in their pockets now, while getting us closer to our goal of same day payouts and lower thresholds.

Investments like these are paying off for streamers. Products like Prime Subs, Community Gifting, Hype Train, and the Ads Incentive Program, to name a few, have driven an increase of 27% more streamer revenue per viewer hour every year over the last five years. This means the same viewer hour now earns you three times more money than it did five years ago, on average. Our investments into your monetization options have already and continue to put more money into streamers’ pockets than 20% more subs revenue share would have.

Prime Subs often get lost in the conversation when it comes to revenue share. For Prime Subs, we pay streamers the same amount they’d receive for a regular subscription even though it is included as an added benefit of their Prime subscription. Combined with other monetization products, Prime Subs increase your effective revenue share by approximately 15%, to about 65% total. This number varies by streamer size and location, but subscription revenue share is not the full picture on revenue share for streamers.

Lastly, we have to talk about the cost of our service. Delivering high definition, low latency, always available live video to nearly every corner of the world is expensive. Using the published rates from Amazon Web Services’ Interactive Video Service (IVS) — which is essentially Twitch video — live video costs for a 100 CCU streamer who streams 200 hours a month are more than $1000 per month. We don’t typically talk about this because, frankly, you shouldn’t have to think about it. We’d rather you focus on doing what you do best. But to fully answer the question of “why not 70/30,” ignoring the high cost of delivering the Twitch service would have meant giving you an incomplete answer.“

As mentioned above, we recently started a rollout for reducing the minimum payout threshold to $50. Although this does not fully meet the request of $10-20 today, we will continue exploring ways to bring your hard-earned money to you faster, and more efficiently and aim to continue to lower the payout threshold in the future.

While we are declining this request, it’s still crucial to know that the primary value of sharing your feedback on UserVoice is to have your voices heard and suggestions considered. We will not always be able to provide the desired outcome, but it’s important to us to be transparent and open when we can, and we will be focusing on providing more consistent updates on UserVoice as time goes on.

    LMAO twitch really said "change the revenue split? ye remember we're changing the payout threshold to $50? we're SO unbelievably good to you and we give you SO many luxuries on our platform, we decided to decline your request because it would cost us more money and we love money haha not like we're stinking rich or anything.. if you want more money just work harder loool anyway cya nerdsss 🤓🤓 oh we're in this together btw 🥺💕"

    Hm what this post also completely doesnt adress is the fact that the region changes on sub prices implemented last year did absolutely nothing for creators.
    On average you earn 0,7€ less per sub while the sub number literally didnt increase at all - a streamer in the US with 1000 Subs would earn 700$ more than an equivalent european streamer. Its literally a scam.

    You're owned by Amazon, don't for one second act like you can't afford server costs. This is such a slap in the face to every creator who makes you money to flat out lie in so many words about why you won't pay us properly.

    You stated you didn't want to provide a partial answer and then you did just that.
    You gave this "live video costs for a 100 CCU streamer who streams 200 hours a month are more than $1000 per month."
    What is the other side of this equation?
    If it costs you $1000+ a month for the provision of internet bandwidth for those 200 hours month, how much is Twitch MAKING during that same average timespan. Once THAT figure it known, then we'd be able to better see if Twitch can AFFORD to increase the profit split with streamers.
    Until then all this is, is an excuse.

    Ah nice, Twitch proving once again that they don’t care for their creators and just see us as endless wallets. This is a massive slap in the face for everyone who uses Twitch to stream, not a middle step to anything! If you can’t even treat your partners with respect of an actual business, how can the affiliates be reassured? We creators are keeping your platform alive and with the way it’s going, it’ll just be Mixer 2.0 and we all know how that ended…

    Streamers: we are the ones who make our money. Can we at least get 70/30
    Twitch: denied bc we want your money to fund our website- BUT we still care about yall don't worry. Also we can't give you your money when you earn it. Suck it streamers.

    Pretty much a big middle finger to content creators on your platform, add to that the vagueness of your exclusivity rules, all this comes across as is just greed. This is just a slap in the race for them and will force them to use either alternative streaming avenues or other ways to be paid.

    That’s pathetic. We’re not in this together, we’re putting in the work, making people feel welcome and included and giving viewers an enjoyable experience. You’re just stealing half of what we earn. Sure, take a share because we’re using your platform but at the end of the day, we can switch to a different platform, you don’t get anything from us doing that. We deserve 70/30 because we are the ones keeping people on your platform, both large and small streamers alike.

    No wonder so many people are moving over to YouTube

    This needs boosting once against because Twitch doesn't want to listen. As someone who loves streaming on this platform, and has a passion for it...this saddens me to see. A higher revenue split would be life-changing for so many people. There's no excuse when other platforms are doing it.

    This reason is only a reason if twitch broke even when it came down to cost and revenue. You do not.
    You make a big profit out of twitch that far outwights any cost you have and lowering the split and giving more to the streamer would simply mean lowering your profit.
    This shows that twitch has become like every other company: putting greed over everything else with these million of constant ads and now this.
    Don't worry I will make sure to give the 5 bucks directly to the streamer instead of subbing.

    "We're in this together" okay then give me half your paychecks so it's fair. The cost of your service isn't our problem, that's why you have sponsors and we're stuck with ads. It would've been less infuriating if you'd simply continued ignoring this request.

    YouTube takes 30% from Memberships
    Facebook takes up to 30%
    OnlyFans takes 20%
    Patreon takes 5-12%

    Twitch takes 50% even from its partners. I understand the costs of the platform are expensive, but "it costs $1000 for 200 hours a month" doesn't even come close to how much a lot of us stream.. I stream 30/40 hours a month, if that. As a partner I don't get why I don't have a better split. What do smaller partners even benefit these days other than a flex? The fact the only option for a better split is getting 500 subs with no gifted or prime included 3 months back to back is ridiculous. "We take half of your money and gave you no better deal even though you worked your *** off to be partnered with us. If you want an actual benefit from it give us even MORE money", the tick doesn't mean anything benefits wise, it's about how much revenue you bring in.... come on guys. I got rejected 7 times for partner and worked really hard to get there. Partnerships include physical benefits. Whether it be merchandise or good benefits. I've never even gotten a partner box because they got snatched up immediately by people who have already had them before. Shouldn't every partner get one when they first get partner rather than it being first to get to the link fast enough? Your smaller partners deserve better. Only the huge guys get actually treated like it's a partnership. You and them together, partners. I don't feel that. I don't feel like I have an actual partnership just a shiny badge.

    Twitch proving yet again they don't actually care about streamers, especially the small ones. Using their "costs" as an excuse for it. If YouTube can afford to only take 30% you absolutely can and the way you have written the letter to explain comes across as so patronising and condescending it's ridiculous.
    Stop being so greedy and actually support the many people who keep you going properly, at this point I am considering not subbing etc and just giving the money I would spend directly to the streamer at least they would get what I actually want them to

    Larger partner creators on the 70/30 split get to keep this up to $100k and then get put down to a 50/50 split. Why not just have this available for everyone? The larger creators have been hit but once again there is no benefit or change to the smaller creators. Not everyone wants to run ads so the 55% for that doesn't really change anything for those who choose to have a better viewing experience
