Low latency player should be available to everyone in the iOS Twitch app
A few months ago, I was suddenly able to start using low latency mode in the Twitch iOS app on my iPhone 8. It was awesome, and it made Twitch much more enjoyable to me because there was far less lag.
A few days ago, I deleted and reinstalled the app. For some reason, the low latency option was now missing. When I contacted Twitch support, it seems that low latency mode on iOS is currently an experimental feature, and it is randomly offered to a small percentage of people and can be taken away.
Because I am unable to view Twitch on desktop, finally being able to use low latency mode was very important to me and helped me feel more connected with my friends because I wasn’t lagging so far behind in streams. Without this option, it makes it much more difficult to communicate with streamers because my messages are so delayed. Everyone else in the chat who has access to low latency mode can see the stream sooner and can react more quickly.
Since this feature already exists and works very well, it should be available to everyone who uses the Twitch iOS app.
I don't know why there is an additional delay of 10 seconds on every stream for mobile users. The video output is delayed, but chat is not. Seeing a chat that doesn't match up with the action is confusing.
Also interacting with the streamer is very difficult!
The iOS app does not show that streamers are live until a few minutes after they start. There is no way to see the start of the stream live on the mobile app. Give the user an option to idle on a streamer's profile and have it start playing at the start of the stream (this is possible in the web browser interface).
I get almost no delay when watching a stream on my computer browser. Even if I use chromecast to stream to my TV from my iPad there is no delay yet the moment I switch back to watching a stream on my iPad I’m stuck with a delay of at least 15 seconds and sometimes longer. It makes interaction with the streamer extremely frustrating as the topic has moved on by the time I answer back.
I have the same problem.
On iOS, there is a delay of about 10 seconds compared to desktop and even Android on live streams. This happens even when the source quality is selected. The delay makes it difficult to use the chat on busy streams, as the chat is always way ahead while the stream lags behind.
