Unmerge All Remakes in the Directory
With a recent update, Twitch merged all remakes of games in the directory with its original game for whatever reason. Now remakes of popular franchises such as Legend of Zelda, Resident Evil, etc. are all fighting over visibility in the same directory. This is also a problem for remakes of games that have completely different names from its original game, such as Kirby Nightmare in Dream Land, the remake of Kirby's Adventure for NES released on GBA, who's directory is now completely gone because ????
I don't understand what the point of this change is. There was absolutely nothing wrong with remakes having their own game in the directory before, and now people who want to watch the remake of a game have to scroll through streams of the original game to find someone streaming the remake! Not to mention everyone following the remake on Twitch have to now follow the original to hopefully find people streaming the remake, which is just asinine. Furthermore, you can still stream to the directory of the remake, but it won't show up when you search the game itself any more. Seriously, who does this benefit? Remakes are the same game but entirely different in function and modernized at the time for a new audience. They are not supposed to be 1:1 with the original game, but merging the two games together like this says that you think otherwise in my eyes. What's next? Getting rid of the Crash and Spyro remake trilogies because there's directories for Crash and Spyro 1-3 already?
Twitch, I'm begging you, please reverse this change. As a speedrunner, visibility in the directory is everything, and now anyone who speedruns a remake will be getting less of it because they'll be fighting for it all in one category. I really just do not see the logic behind doing this at all, and I hope my reasoning makes sense here to whoever can make the decision to reverse it.
Update: we are now able to support a handful of new game types from IGDB, including remakes, remasters, expanded games, and forks – all new game types that have been introduced on IGDB (see the updated documentation at https://github.com/twitchtv/igdb-contribution-guidelines/wiki/Type)
This means that we can now restore nearly all of the titles that have been reported missing in this suggestion, and we are working to do so!
Thank you for your feedback and patience! We will close this suggestion for now, but please feel free to open new suggestions if there are additional games that you find are missing!

bring it back. It's not the same game as SM64 it needs a separate category

Is it just me or is the Mega Man Legacy Collection category gone too? I was streaming challenges the other day and couldn't use it.
@mouse: The best way to handle game remakes is to just keep them as their own unique categories, that handled it 100% perfectly fine. The issue is there was no need to change it nor is there a need to explore ways to handle them better. The way they were before the change was literally the best way to handle them, bar none.

Minor issue compared to what other people are experiencing. Dragon's Dogma and Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen have seemed to merge into one category as well.

It wasn't just "remakes" that were affected. The categories for the entire .hack//IMOQ series for the PS2 were outright deleted in the recent changes.
Twitch, what on earth are you doing?

EVEN the new Super Mario 3D All-Stars is gone from Twitch.

Most of the time a remake its almost nothing like the original game, and the different versions or expansions of a game are merged together now. This results in a harder time searching for something specific to watch. Totally support the OP

Sorry, I realize I got a bit heated in my previous comment. I deleted it.
I support the OP suggestion. Please unmerge all "remakes".

In the last week, the "Extreme" categories have been removed from Dynasty Warriors on twitch (for example "Dynasty Warriors 8: Extreme Legends" is missing). These games are distinct and often very different from their non-extreme versions and to group the games into the same category seems like a poor decision. If I am looking to purchase an Extreme version but first want to engage with someone to see how the game works, or if I like the Extreme iteration better, I want to be able to watch that game, not the other one of a similar title. It just feels like a mislabel if I stream under "Dynasty Warriors 8" when I am playing a completely different game that happens to have 3 words the same.
Please bring back the categories for Dynasty Warriors.

Please keep CTRNF and OG CTR separate categories. They're vastly different games from each other, CTRNF is more than just a simple remake of CTR. Like MegumiTame, I also stream CTRNF on weekends and want those to be kept separate. Plus if they were kept merged then those who stream OG CTR will be drowned out from the majority of those who stream CTRNF.

Rehydrated speedrunning just took off as its own very active community and now I have no way to see who's playing it without sorting through the already populated OG BFBB category. This is a completely negative decision. I have no idea who benefits from these categories being merged but I know MANY who will suffer from it.

I'm surprised I haven't seen this in the comments yet, but this effects speedrunning communities hugely. Most of the time originals and remakes are completely different speedgames with different communities preferring one or the other. The differentiation between originals and remakes is important for us because at the end of the day they aren't the same game.

Yes, this is a necessity. With games like Resident Evil, merged categories don't work because the remakes are completely different games. Having them lumped together hurts streamers cultivating a userbase with originals or the remakes in particular. It hurts viewers because finding the particular game is harder.

Well said comment, but also I have a lot of issues with Twitch not even rolling out this new change constantly. Some games, such as Super Mario 3D All Stars did not get merged with their original games, even though they are 1 for 1 emulated from older games. Where at things like the Pokémon remakes, which have significant changes to them, like FireRed, and LeafGreen got remerged.
Honestly this change does nothing but cause confusion, harms streamers and honestly comes across as incompetence on Twich's part when they didn't even uniformly apply this change.

resident evil 3 (2020) is a little different from Resident Evil 3: Nemesis from 1999

please bring back individual categories for each game and additionally get us franchise categories... so any pokemon stream would turn up in the general pokemon directiory as well.
in a lot of franchises your pretty much forced to stream to a certain game for any discoverability... which i feel this change was supposed to adress, though instead it creates viewer confusion.

Yeah this is super dumb. Battle for Bikini Bottom and Rehydrated are VERY different games, so it makes perfect sense to separate them.
