Add Game Genre Filters
Please add the ability to filter games by genre so for instance If I click on the games tab I would then be met with the ability to filter the game list by genre of game (Adventure, RTS, MMO, etc) this would allow users to find the content they feel like viewing much more easily and would allow streamers who are not streaming top viewed games far more exposure with the current system if you are not streaming a one of the games near the top of the game list there is almost no chance of anyone finding your channel unless they search directly for the game you are playing which lets be honest isn't very likely. I feel this small change could make a world of difference to a lot of streams and viewers allowing them much easier access to games they may not of been aware of. The system could be easily implemented by having a pull down tab of genres next to the game name section in your stream setup or something of that nature.
We have launched a feature like this in the form of Tags =)

Yes I've always thought this would be great alongside the "Games" filter.
I don't remember what the games database is that Twitch uses, but I assume it has those tags in there?
Then I would suggest creating top level tags to make browsing easier, so for example "RPG" may cover a bunch of RPG related tags in that database.
Some existing "games" are essentially a tag like "RETRO".
I would add a simple dropdown combined with textbox to the top of "All Games" to search by genre. The dropdown may include those "top level" categories I described above so you can limit the list to about ten (rpg, FPS, puzzles, etc). And if the user wants to finegrain to the individual tags type in the box...

Agree we need this! Looking through a gorillion thumbnails for games (many missing cover art) hurts my eyes!
A filter by language/country would also be useful
Too many streamers use English stream titles for views or even have [Eng] tags and don't ever speak English

I second Silent's motion. I'd also like to add that the way it is currently set up, as a smaller caster, I'm less inclined to play in a directory that has no channels/viewers. This is indirectly steering my choice of what game to play in order to see a modicum of growth. If we had the ability to sort by genre(and to a further extent, game series) I could play something like Command & Conquer : Red Alert 2 and know that someone sorting by RTS to find Total War: Rome would notice that a 5 viewer stream of C&C was being played as well.

I was about to submit a similar idea myself. I was thinking that currently the only way for potential viewers to find you is to search for your specific game, or be a previous viewer.
It would be great to be able to find a stream playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 by searching for "playstation" "tony hawk" and "skating" for example.
Searching "Retro" would filter all games under that genre, and you would be able to see a much more diverse selection of streamers and games.
This would allow a better chance of discoverability for streamers being the only one in a particular game. Even with the current system of organizing by view count only.
I would also love to see a better Browse section that is more similar to Netflix or Spotify's browsing system that caters to Twtich's genres.
