Trans tag request
It is hard enough finding trans representation in our daily lives. With the LGBTQIA+ tag, one still needs to browse through channels and spend time in them to find trans streamers. A "trans" tag would help people searching for these communities.
Today we are rolling out 350+ tags, including the transgender tag, to provide you with more options on how you express yourself and your content, so that you can more easily connect with one another and build wonderful communities. We are really appreciative for all of the feedback around this topic (and other related suggestions).
We previously told you that we had a better solution to this request than adding the tag, and we were wrong. This has been one of the most popular requests we’ve heard, and the simple truth is that we should have done this sooner. In an effort to think carefully about how to best address this, we only made the situation more difficult. Again, thank you for helping us throughout this process in reevaluating our stance.
Please continue to share ideas and feedback you have to UserVoice, as well as any suggestions for additional tags you feel we may have missed! We are working to invest more into this forum and aim to have faster communications in the future.
Please check out our blog post for more info: https://blog.twitch.tv/en/2021/05/26/celebrate-yourself-and-your-community-with-350-new-tags/

@Pixie1001 do you have any idea how dangerous it is to be trans?
I would never dream of "outing" somebody or pressuring somebody to be out regardless of circumstance. If people don't want to use the Trans tag then by all means t h e y d o n t h a v e t o.
It really isn't that deep.

The corporate non-answer answer was ABSOLUTELY not the way to handle this. This looks REAL BAD on your end, and shows the LGBTQ community on Twitch how you feel about them

@Pixie1001 no one is forced to use a tag. Queer people are not attacked for choosing to not use the LGBTQIA+ tag. Similarly, the creation of queer bars and spaces allow the LGBTQIA+ community to come together safely--they are not mandatory meeting places.
Being open and clear about identity allows the LGBTQIA+ community to find one another more easily, but it's still about choice. The Trans community and their allies are explicitly asking for a Trans tag. We are not asking for mandatory "outting." Choosing not to use a Trans tag or an LGBTQIA+ tag is not "lying by omission" for some it's survival. That's the nature of the world we live in. But, once again, its about CHOICE. The choice to live openly for your self or for your community to feel empowered to do the same. Allowing Trans folks to connect with the Trans tag can help strengthen the community in a way that only Trans folks can.
Scroll through the endless, redundant tags that currently exist on Twitch. There is PLENTY of room for clear Trans representation.

I can kinda see why Twitch is leery on this one. It looks like a good idea on the surface, but I'm kinda worried about trans-streamers feeling pressured to 'out' themselves by using the tag.
Like, once it's a formalised thing, I feel like a lot of people could take not using it as lying by omission or something for streamers that don't necessarily want to be defined by their choice of gender.

this shouldnt be up to a vote, it should be in there already! come on twitch! be all inclusive! stand up for our trans brothers and sisters!

All letters of LGBTQIA+ need proper representation, and currently the LGBTQIA+ tag only caters to gay men and allies (who shouldn’t even be using the tag).
Creating a tag for trans creators to use, to help those that want to find specifically trans communities, gives them a very easy way to do so.
It is not your decision on what is or is not best for the trans community. These creators need a way to be visible, please give it to them.

I work in customer service and know exactly how to construct a wordy non-answer.
This is it. A perfect hard no.

would also help in identifying and blocking streams whose identity is zipped in their pants.

It took you more than half a year for this reply? "yeah, creating a tag seems like the obvious answer but we need to think about it, you know, to make sure we do this 'right'"? Seriously?

This is a completely unacceptable answer. This community has told you what they need. Your condescending attitude of "we know best for you" is exactly what is wrong with the way you run this platform. STOP TALKING AND LISTEN.

Hi Twitch,
The community told you what THEY need and think best. Your patronizing paternalism IS the underlying problem that creates systemic oppression in the wider world. The trans community is a rare gem, created by a long history of intense pressure and is resultantly well aware of what the community needs to thrive in a better future. By saying you want to doddle and take your time to implement some inferior solution, you cast yourself in an awful light. You could very easily be a hero but you're choosing to be a villain. Maybe have another meeting. Maybe consider letting some trans people attend that meeting.

Until we get details on Twitch's counter (hopefully we wouldn't have to wait until the virtual Twitchcon for it), I don't see how this changes what we're asking for - An easy way to index Trans content.

This is a pretty unsatisfying answer. People have been clamoring for this for months so why the secrecy? If you have something then share it with the class. Give us something! This answer rings hollow, especially with Twitch going ahead with their mid stream ads thing.
Translation: if it doesn't make them money then they really don't seem to care as much.

First off thank you for the dispassionate and unthoughtful comment on this topic. We see with this request you don't care about and haven't been thinking about it for some time. When you created the tag system, after taking communities away from us, there isn't any transparency on having a better solution. Because twitch as a corporate entity doesn't care about their community anymore.
We very clearly have an expectation that we as a community stated, that it appears to have fallen on deaf ears because there isn't any money in it to be made. Your focus has changed away from community, which there will be a risk for delaying.
But we will continue to update you that we aren't going anywhere, even if its not solid information. And we will continue to share our ideas that appear to only fall on deaf ears on the amazon streaming monopoly.

Stop the corporate response. This petition isn't asking for any surface-level polite statements. We are asking you to act. Don't say you support trans people, just show us evidence of how you achieve that, and we'll be the judge of whether it's succesful.
If you sincerely wanna go further, that's great. But it's not mutually exclusive with the implementation of a tag, which quite frankly, is so easy even an intern could do it in an afternoon.
If you're worried about doing the wrong thing, ask yourself if that's a well-intentioned but overly redundant feeling, or if it's an accurate assessment of your lack of (empowered) transgender staff members and developers. And of your own in-office lack of education on trans issues.Whatever the problem, resolve it. Please just stop dragging your feet on important issues such as these.

It can't be that hard to just make a trans tag putting every lgbtqia+ person into 1 tag is just not enough especially if allies use the same tag as well it just needs more options
