[MERGED] Bring back colored /me chat messages + Update the /me command to color chat messages FOR MODS/BROADCASTER ROLES ONLY
Or at least give streamers the authority to enable or disable it. But the ENTIRE point was how it stood out with color. Plain black with italics just renders it useless.
Hey all,
Thank you for the patience with us on this. This has been one of the most popular ideas on UserVoice and we definitely heard your feedback.
Today we launched /announcement for mods and streamers. Announcements can be used in chat to highlight a message and are available in 4 different colors along with the channel accent color. Because this is only part of the ask of this idea we are setting this idea to partial release so the community can continue to leave feedback on this.

I fully agree with you there Fivestaralphasnake. They need to address this asap. So many people voiced their opinion about it and ±95% agrees with getting coloured /me back. Or at least for Broadcaster and Moderators. Not that hard to implement something that you already had.
Seriously, if you can't tell the difference between a fake donation from a true one, you need to change your bot settings and add a sound to the alert. Problem solved and /me coloured can come back.

Yeha its pretty said to see no one say anything about this.

After 5 weeks you managed to ignore the plea on the probably most upvoted and addressed issue, nor address it in a manner that gives creators any confidence about your decisionmaking or the plattform in general.
It's truly sad, disheartening and just not comprehensible.

We don't have any news about this. We are at 5000 vote for this. You could very easily do a per channel setting to disable the colored /me for the people out there that don't know the difference between a donation and a troll and lets all the rest be able to have colorful chat like in the good ol' time.
Also the italic /me is the worst thing. It's unreadable. You changed something that was perfect for ridiculous reason for something that is the worse.

I'd also like to see the return of the coloured chat.
Other than the "abuse" of fake dono's (which became more funny than abusive after a few months once it was a Meme) I've not seen any other abuse, but then again:
- I don't watch your reports system.
- I don't get into every type of stream.
- I understand things happen in the background I have no right to know.
- I understand revealing the abusive nature of some things can result in thousands of people thinking "Oh, I never thought of that! I'm gonna do that now too!" and would therefore cause more harm than good. Some thoughts from me, all exclusive from one another:
- Make coloured text tiered instead of name dependant. RED for mods and host, Green for bots, and Blue for players, as an example.
- Have a toggle in the dashboard for those who don't want coloured /me text in their chats.
- Make use of the "Regular" role, and only allow people with this role to use it.
- Have an "Hours Watched" threshold customisable by channel before you can use it.
- Make it a different command only certain users can use:
/me Italic text here
/highlight Coloured text hereThere are a lot of options here. I hope the blanket removal was to facilitate these ideas coming through.
I will, however, say as a parting thought: The italic text is horrible to read. At the bare minimum allow us to remove that ability from our channel alltogether.

I get that safety is of top priority! Im with you all the way.
The best way so stop abusive text in chat is to remove chat. The colour of the words wont make a bit if difference.
I appreciate the effort you guys put into the platform. I really do.
Can we have some more updates or something? Its over a month & we have heard nothing!!
/me was amazing for both streamers mods & our viewrs!
Its done more good than any damage is may have caused! -

This should be a global option via stream settings. The fact that there is very little chat customizability on a streamer by streamer basis boggles my mind.
-
w40ktank commented
Why is it not possible to use both options depending on what you like? / me for colored and for example / me2 for italic
Alternative / me3 for both. That would help everyone and you offer your streamers a little more service. I think the effort wouldn't be that big. Greetings from w40ktank.

I'm sorry but the response given about why this has been removed is giving me flashbacks to when EA responded about Battlefront's Vader-gate, AKA it's weak.
There are many more ways and more hurtful / prominent ways members of your community are being abused. The fact that these things don't even get put up for community vote is ridiculous. Just because a small few people got jebaited with the /me thing, thinking they received dono's or whatever, shouldn't make you just ditch the whole thing. This is ridiculous.
So will you be taking away the raid / host feature now too? Seeing how people have been getting hate raided, which is correct me if I am wrong but a form of abuse by and against members of your community?
Oh no wait actually we can choose to get raided by everyone or not. HMM, now wouldn't it be great to have a way of toggling /me or even making it available to people with a certain amount of hours in your channel?
Or is it one of those things that is gonna be available only if you sub to a channel or have amazon prime, cuz I mean, why does anyone change anything ever with such a weak response if it isn't about money?
Yeah I am gonna love seeing how this turns out.

I have a few hundred people pass thrugh my stream daily.. not one likes this change.
Add a toggle feature!!! PLEASE
Italics are a killer to read.
and if people are using it offensively what's going to stop them from typing the same thing without /me?
Do we ban Text chat if we read too many rude comments? And if you are offended /me colored fake donos then you need to look at your self some... all donos set off alerts.. if they dont set one up..
If I get a fake dono, a user drops a real dono and says.. this is how you do it!

I feel like the new system has a bit higher potential for abuse:
Previously, all /me messages matched the user's color, and channel moderators rarely change their names, giving a bit of clarity for the sender.
They are now all the same color, so streamers now always need to read the message senders name.Boiled down, old /me was used to convey a person's thoughts (/me is very tired), but new /me always looks like a system/generic message.
Most of my channel's /me chats were sent by my robot moderator, and we have different color names to represent that. Trolls can dupe slightly faster now. -

This update has hurt the readability of my bot. Please build a user toggle, or allow mods to write coloured text.

1. Allow creators to turn this on off in our dashboards with the flick of a switch instead of forcing the change.
2. Allow mods/bots/VIP's in channel to use the function.Besides someone doing '/me donated $1000' is there some abuse that is sneaking in that we aren't aware of?
I am trying my absolute best to be neutral tone on this, but I really would love to see some response since the April 29th one by @mouse , maybe showing some of the forms of abuse that you're trying to prevent? Or maybe allowing creators to specify their channels as okay for the old system would do wonders compared to what's in place at the moment.

Seriously tho. Have you ever had such a response? I have reduced my website time SO much.

You'd think highest upvoted chat suggestion of all time we'd hear a bit more about a fix, compromise, anything? Considering the level of pushback this has got. I've not seen a single person thankful for this change. However 12 days later we still stare at the same cookie cutter response. Like all things that get changed the community doesn't like twitch will simply ignore it until we simply deal with it. Wish I had that option in my workplace.
Also removing the comments that call twitch out for making a change and claiming that it was a requested feature when there is zero proof of that anywhere really doesn't speak highly of "uservoice" now does it?
