[MERGED] Bring back colored /me chat messages + Update the /me command to color chat messages FOR MODS/BROADCASTER ROLES ONLY
Or at least give streamers the authority to enable or disable it. But the ENTIRE point was how it stood out with color. Plain black with italics just renders it useless.

Hey all,
Thank you for the patience with us on this. This has been one of the most popular ideas on UserVoice and we definitely heard your feedback.
Today we launched /announcement for mods and streamers. Announcements can be used in chat to highlight a message and are available in 4 different colors along with the channel accent color. Because this is only part of the ask of this idea we are setting this idea to partial release so the community can continue to leave feedback on this.

Ok, after 2 years I found out that if you have the FrankerFacez extension, you can enable the colors for you. Let's all add it, and let Twitch do whatever they want.
After you install FrankerFacez extension, go to FrankerFacez Control Center (new button next to your profile button) -> Chat -> Appearance -> Action Style -> Colorized (or colorized italic if you prefer)
And if you change the obs settings, and add that you have the extension, you even get it in the chat on the screen!

How is this a partial release? That's a whole new feature.
The suggestion was to bring the colored messages back.
I can't believe you don't want to give a simple option to people. Just let us choose how we want to see the text. If there are streamers who get easily scammed because of this, they can just set it to italics.
It's been 2 years -

Not sure why you can't just give us the option to set it for ourselves. We can see the /me in color in vods, so the code is still there. Just give us the option to enable it on live streams as well.

Agreed with comments below that Announcements are not relevant to this suggestion.
I LOVED the /me command when it was different colors, now it bothers me every time I use it. Couldn't tell you why it bothers me so much, (silly, I know) but it does enough to come here and comment in favor of changing the command back to colored text. We never got an explanation for this change that actually made sense.. (Bullying? Please) and everyone hated the change, so I remain very confused and unreasonably angry about it.

/announcement is a terrible side-grade and is not addressing the issue of this topic, its like you have hijacked the thread to promote a feature that you want over dealing with the issue at hand.
I tested it once to see, and no this is not a replacement for colored messages.
I see colored text in VODs so I know you still have the ability to display it.the only thing that /announcement can be used for if you are promoting your sponsor ect.. then then I wont use it as it take way to much space in the chat.
putting boxes round messages is just not the same as being able to look and see loads of colored messages in my chat.it's quite easy.
Add a toggle switch..
Want it? turn it on.
Don't? turn it off.if you are worried about people using it for fake dono's then you need to educate the streamers better, have preset alert!
yes many people use SreamElements / StreamLabs god help them for the latter.
they have it all on by default! if the streamer turns the alerts off that their problem.
If the streamer dose not have alerts on for dono's then gets fooled by a colored messed I fear for them.If I get a fake dono me and my chat laugh at them, and I usually get a real dono because of it, to show them how its done.
come on guys.. its been so long... and its really not an issue.

Dear Twitch Devs,
As has been said by others, the announcement feature is just that - an entirely separate feature that has no bearing on the topic of this discussion. The entire point of this user voice post was about bringing back the original functionality of /me, and the announce feature in no way, shape, or form, addresses that request. The usage of the two features are entirely different since announcements don't appear like the rest of chat but rather blend in with things like subs and point redeems - so people won't actually read them if they're only paying attention to the chat. It also does nothing to address the various usages people have mentioned having for /me in the past. Nor does it address the very real accessibility issue people have pointed out about italics being hard to read for many users in addition to how it is causing eye strain. Please at least acknowledge that this is a separate feature rather than trying to pass it off to an answer to this UserVoice.

The newly added announcement function is a great addition.
However, I used to use 'ME' to keep it out of sight.
I assigned a dark orange colour to it because I was using a translation bot so that the translation was less noticeable than the remarks, but those who needed the translation could read it.
The 'me' function is necessary.
As others have said, just bring back the me function and add on/off and permission settings. -

I really do believe that /announce serves a good purpose but it is not a replacement for /me. I had someone try that /me donated $100 **** when I was a baby streamer and it took me 3 seconds to realize what happened. I know that is not the case for everyone and it did a lot of emotional damage to some people. What seems like a compromise is what everyone is suggesting but not being responded to directly. Lock it to roles of streamer, editor, mod, or even VIP as VIPs are trusted members of the community. Have it be toggleable to the channel. It was one of the more useful tools available to set apart bot messages or mod messages. It was fun for raids and something people could use to have a laugh. This seems like a classic "a few bad apples ruin the bunch" situation - BUT It feels like something that was a problem that could easily be compromised on.

Is /announce a good feature? Yes. Is it a good replacement for /me? No. It does serve an overlapping issue, but /me is has always been way more than just an announcement.
There is just one thing that everyone wishes for: If you won't revert the changes (and lets be honest, that'll never happen...) at least allow the streamer to control, how /me in their stream works.
If I want my community to be able to write in bold and color, like it has been for the past ~20 years in online gaming, than I should be able to allow my users to interact that way. It's as easy as that.

"...we definitely heard your feedback" ...and then studiously ignored it. I'm morbidly curious how a one point card to revert a stupid change became an entire misfeature that seems to have slipped by the UX designer entirely.

I think it fair to categorize this response, that we waited a YEAR for, as "tone-deaf". /me Sadge

Bring back the /me command with color (without italic).
and eventually add a setting for a few streamers who want to disable it,
or allow it to mods only. -

The "Announce" feature is barely useful at the very most. Mostly it's useless. It barely stands out at all. The colors are not very noticeable. You wouldn't even notice it unless you were focusing very closely to chat already. It's not helpful.
Bring back the colored text for Mods & Streamers ONLY. Then there's NO possibility of it being used to fake a donation or anything else from anyone that isn't a Mod.
Any REAL donation message only comes from A BOT!!
I don't know how anyone could have ever mistaken any fake messages for a real donation, because it wouldn't have been posted by A BOT. THAT'S HOW YOU KNOW IT'S LEGITIMATE!!!
If the message doesn't come from A BOT, then it's not a real donation!! It's that easy. Just look at who posted the message!

/announce doesn't even work outside of Twitch website anyway. Chat console in Streamlabs Chatbot? Nope. Bot timers that should send plaintext to Twitch chat? Nope. It works only if I type it directly in stream's control panel or in the iframe embedded in OBS.

Noob_Killa commented
So instead of making /me color text a feature the STREAMER can turn on and off you decide to make a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT feature that nowhere in any form matches what was taken away. Its simple. If a streamer has "Unique /me" enabled... ADD COLOR. I could make this in my sleep... tbh I might as well send it over to BTTV and let them get it done right.

Idk what's worse, the complete disregard of the request for a year, or that you had the audacity to pretend that /announce was in any way a resolution to the issue... The request was to bring the old feature back, how hard is that? Nobody asked for a *new* feature on this. To be clear, I like /announce, but I refuse to provide any feedback on it within this thread since it is simply off-topic. It cannot be used like /me could and instead of looking like a message, it now blends into sub alerts and channel point redemptions which is something for completely different use cases. There's no partial release, no partial fix to the issue and certainly no "listening to ideas and feedback."
