[MERGED] Bring back colored /me chat messages + Update the /me command to color chat messages FOR MODS/BROADCASTER ROLES ONLY
Or at least give streamers the authority to enable or disable it. But the ENTIRE point was how it stood out with color. Plain black with italics just renders it useless.
Hey all,
Thank you for the patience with us on this. This has been one of the most popular ideas on UserVoice and we definitely heard your feedback.
Today we launched /announcement for mods and streamers. Announcements can be used in chat to highlight a message and are available in 4 different colors along with the channel accent color. Because this is only part of the ask of this idea we are setting this idea to partial release so the community can continue to leave feedback on this.

The /me has been part of the IRC chat client since FOREVER! It's a very cool tradition to maintain, and allows for a more custom, colorful and PROUD community. Imagine not adding Trans tags, or other identity/community based tags that over 9k people are asking for, and getting rid of Rainbow Raids when like less than 100 people whined about distractions... And you wonder why we don't feel respected by Twitch.

I thought the original intent of /me was that the colored text was an extension of the already colored username to help provide emphasis for describing actions that cannot be easily spoken without sounding like an antisocial robot, while implying that the default black/white color when you type something in chat normally is a written/verbal expression.
Italics implies emphasis on part of a written/verbal statement. This change to /me sucks out the fun in describing actions in chat because it removes the subtlety of having your message be directly connected to the color of your username.
This combined with the fact that you can only use slash commands at the start of your message and not at any point like how anyone would use italics when typing something anywhere else (e.g. Word Document) makes this change even more bizarre, because this implies the entire message needs to be emphasized with italics so the reader can give their attention to it.
The slanted appearance on an entire message makes it uglier and harder to read especially when chat is moving quickly, not to mention there are already channel point reward options that let users highlight the space surrounding their messages, that do not alter the physical structure of the words, and aside from requiring channel points to use, are more accessible in appearance and use.
This decision reeks of either incompetency or generating artificial outrage. Please bring back /me as it was before and improve your marketing research department before making a decision like this without warning again.

Twitch should have added 'donated' to the Bullying Auto-Mod, and the problem is solved.
Anyone who wanted the word, which is no-one, could have re-added it to the approved word list.
Save /me #me

I'd be happy for it to go back to colour for everyone, not just mods. The italics are just blah. I regularly use /me on Nightbot announcements for my streamers too and italics doesn't pop nearly as much as colour.

this change sucks, they should've just made it mod / streamer only coloured messages.

Please at least give us the option to choose what we want in our own streams. Having bots use coloured text make that chat much more clear and easy to read, and also rainbow raids are fun!

Literally nobody likes /me doing italics. In every chat I've been in, everyone who's commented on it has said they hate it. The only thing Twitch has accomplished with this is to take away something that was fun and playful, and replace it with something that is very difficult to read for long messages. IMO it should be restored for everyone.

I think people are more mad at the fact Twitch pulled the rug from under us with this change with no options to go back.
I find the italics much more pleasant to read for my eyes. Especially when /me is supposed to be used as to describe an action.
The colors are still VERY GOOD and very much had it's place in chat and should NOT have been removed.
Twitch should have given use options, either the viewer and choose if they want to see /me be italics or color
or even give Broadcasters the choice to determine which rolls can use a /me for a color, so maybe you just want mods to use /me for color and have users be italics
Could even split it between two commands /me for italics and /color, /announce...ect... for well color.
Twitch can make make a system that works for everyone here and would allow streamers to better tailor the chat experience they want for their streams and for users to choose which one would be easier for them to read. (Yes some people like myself prefer to read with italics over the colors)
Anyways cheers, long comment is long and I hope Twitch fixes this situation sooner then later.

If someone is fooled by a /me colored donation, they will be fooled by /me italicized donation anyways. Bring back the color!

The new /me is ****. Please change it back. No one asked to change it.

I find the italic text harder to read then the coloured text, and I have decent vision and no reading difficulties. Plus the coloured text made raids more colourful and exciting. If a streamer wants to not have their audience using colour text they can have it in their rules.

Color text is more fun plus it's easier to differentiate for bots

No one asked for this change. Please revert it. Makes no sense.

anyone who's spent more than an hour on twitch has seen the "/me has donated $dollars!" troll messages. even newbie streamers rarely fall for it, and if so, only once.
meantime, millions of people use it to decorate streamer chats with raid and other messages to show support.
this seems like using a hammer to kill an ant.
