[MERGED] Bring back colored /me chat messages + Update the /me command to color chat messages FOR MODS/BROADCASTER ROLES ONLY
Or at least give streamers the authority to enable or disable it. But the ENTIRE point was how it stood out with color. Plain black with italics just renders it useless.
Hey all,
Thank you for the patience with us on this. This has been one of the most popular ideas on UserVoice and we definitely heard your feedback.
Today we launched /announcement for mods and streamers. Announcements can be used in chat to highlight a message and are available in 4 different colors along with the channel accent color. Because this is only part of the ask of this idea we are setting this idea to partial release so the community can continue to leave feedback on this.

Italic text is an accessibility barrier to people with dyslexia. Please do not force this change on every user. This is rather appalling that this was a suggestion of 9 people when the Trans tag has thousands of upvotes. Please listen to your users and do your part.

There was literally no point to this change. The coloured /me was so much better, didn't hurt my eyes and actually helps it stand out better. I haven't seen anyone abuse the command, except for new members to Twitch who think they can fool someone with a fake /me donation message. But even then, nobody really fell for it. Please change it back.

Stop trying to experiment with Twitch and Twitch chat as a whole. Chat replies and italic /me messages were things very few people actually wanted and only make chat harder to follow. If you want to implement new ideas, make them opt-in features first, because all a forced rollout does is force people who need accessibility accommodations to readapt and make Twitch a less user-friendly space.

This is the CORRECT solution. Encouraging people to misuse /me is NOT the correct solution.
The changes to /me should remain, to encourage people to use it properly.

channel owners themselves should be able to decide if they want the /me text to be colored or not. if they chose the colored and people take advantage of that to gain undue attention too often, they can be banned or timed out. no need to make it a site-wide "protection" that not every channel has seen.

Removing a beloved feature due to a handful of cases that could've been prevented through other means just doesn't sit well. :-/
(And yes, "removing". Italics hinder readability and thus are not a suitable replacement. Colourful text already has the "readable colours" toggle to resolve its own potential concerns.)

Italicized text from the /me command gives me actual anxiety (a problem I never ever had, or even COULD have, with colored text).
The reason is because every moderator action in twitch chat uses italicized text.
So whenever I see italicized text, I literally have a mini-panic attack of, "Oh my god what did I do wrong?!?".
If the idea was to remove fake donations (which seems strange as literally anyone who has streamed and gotten donations should know that donations do not work that way at all), then twitch replaced one 'problem' if it was even one, with another much realer problem. People can now pretend that they had mod action taken against them, which is imo much worse.
That, aside from the fact that the italicized text is very hard to read. It reduces, rather than increases, chat clarity.

No. Please don't. That's a misuse of the /me command. /me us used to describe an action, NOT get attention. Instead of encouraging people to continue to misuse /me, Twitch should add an /announce command that can be limited to VIPs/Mods/bots to create coloured messages.

I spent about 10 hours writing a bot that draws an ASCII snake in chat. It utilizes Bits and Channel Points to customize colors. Twitch should allow their creators to enrich their platform, rather than buckle under complainers. Removing the /me command was about the laziest way to handle any apparent issues with it.

As a streamer, the colored text helps to denote bot messages. In quick moving chats, it’s easy to move over that text and discern it quickly. Italics are already becoming cumbersome to the eyes to follow and move on from the content. I understand that for color-sensitive eyes the italics can be helpful, but it’s putting others in a weird spot now. Can we get a toggle for this, the streamer can decide what the /me enables? I think that’s a fantastic idea.

Completely agree, twitch needs to consult it’s users before making these types of decisions.

People use the colorful messages for their bots or to bring attention to other helpful messages. The italics just don’t stand out enough. And if people are abusing the use of the colorful messages, the streamer/mods can block or time them out just like ANY other abusive behavior. Or, give the streamer the option to disable the command?

Italics are a lot harder to read for people with dyslexia or whom are visually impaired. If this were an issue of people who may be visually impaired not being able to tell the difference between a fake coloured donation then please make this an optional way of viewing /me on the user side. I personally still want to see coloured messages for emphasis, my bot messages, and in raid messages and would like to have the choice. While it’s such a small feature, /me is one of my favourite chat features on the platform and I do not want to see it go.

I also agree that colored chat should return. It was a great way to make your chat bot easily stand out while also ignorable.

Just give the creator control over this. Please stop deciding whats best for us.

Give streamers the option to enable / disable it!!

I have seen bots with a stop on "/me donated $" baked in. if this is doable for a bot, surely the same thing can be done via automod. please implement a ban on using "/me donated" within automod, and bring back colorful /me.

The removal of the nametag coloured /me respond in chat is just plainly dumb.
Firstly, the bots which post a fake donation use the word 'donated' - this word is not used on the platform except by the fake donation message, therefore this change has not fixed the problem.
Banning the word 'donated' fixes the problem instantly.Coloured chat responses are great for:
1. It makes raids look awesome.
2. Bot responses in the alternate colour make them easy to find/ignore depending on what the viewer is desire. The people involved in this change need to be sacked. They have broken a great feature and have failed to fix the issue at hand.

Please give the content creator the option to shut it off, or have it be VIP+.
