  1. When clicking on a username in chat, see which channels you both follow

Similar to Twitter, so when you click on a user's name in chat you will see:

    • A "follows you" tag so you know if they are following you, if you happen to see them in another channel's chat

    • An option to view "channels you both follow" so you know if you have any other channels in common

People often say they see similar names in other chats and it would be really useful to know what channels/interests you share with other Twitch users.

  2. Require new users to verify their accounts with a phone number (anti-troll)

This is another anti-troll feature to combat trolls who evade chat bans by just creating new accounts. Whenever new users sign up for an account, they have to verify their account with a phone number, much like how Gmail and Hotmail verify new accounts. Each phone number can only be used to verify an address X times per year (for example, 3 per year).

This will make it harder for trolls to constantly create new accounts to evade chat bans. You can even give broadcasters the option of preventing people who haven't verified their accounts with a phone number from chatting in their channel, and sending them whispers and messages.

  3. Give an option to remove "deleted messages" from view entirely.

You are currently capable of reviewing those deleted messages but most people are not interested in that and at least in my small audience i heard that they would love to have an option removing those "message deleted" messages entirely.
    Make it default perhaps?
Mods and people that actually care about that (for honesty ... what reason...?) can turn it on in the settings.

  4. Allow mods to remove a single message

Currently, removing a viewer's message also removes the previous message. Allow the removal of a single message.

  5. Ability to react to individual comments with emotes/emojis (a la Discord)

On Discord, you can react to a message with an emote or emoji. This allows people to react to a comment without clogging up the chat with "LOL" or "yes/no", etc. The streamer would be able to opt-in to it to prevent it when it isn't wanted.

  6. Visible chat/whispers character limit

It would be very helpful to have the current hidden character limit shown just like on twitter or similar websites, and not be able to send the messages when they are too long, instead of giving us the illusion to have sent them successfully when it is not actually the case. Both in chat and whispers.

  7. DM character limit

Twitch has imposed a 4,000 character limit for DMs. It would be extremely helpful if there was a counter with the composition window that showed a user how many remaining characters may be typed in a message before that limit is reached.

I learned of this limit the hard way; one time I clicked 'Send' on a message, only to get a screen with a red box across the top of it informing me my message had exceeded the character limit and my message hadn't been sent. Unfortunately, the text of that message was lost too.

  8. Check user message history

In streams where there can be as many as 10,000 people in one channel, chat at times can be difficult to moderate with so many messages being sent and keep track of user's behaviour. It would be helpful if mods or the streamer could click on a specific username in chat and see their message history. At times it may not be just for one message that may be ban worthy, but just for their attitude i.e. XxReApErxX has only ever chatted to comment on the streamer's bad gameplay. While one message may not be ban-worthy, if this was all they were doing, some channels may just decide to do so to improve the mood of the chatroom.
It's also useful if a user wanted to challenge a ban, they could point to their message history, and a moderator could reverse the ban if the user has for the most part been participating positively in chat. Or they could point out how the banned user has only thrown insults in chat or whatever they were doing that was against the rules of the channel.
You can just do it by going into a vod and finding the specific time a certain user last posted. But that takes guesswork and time, which frankly usually isn't worth the bother and takes attention away from the chat in the present. The method is already there but the UI just makes it tedious to do so and involves so much guesswork. It would be so useful for moderating if we could do this.

  9. Please provide more accessibility options.

I have problems with my vision, so reading chat is often pretty rough for me. In the past, I have been able to get around this by utilizing the vast chat appearance options available in FFZ, but Twitch's new chat has severely limited these options. Please either let the old FFZ back into the current chat or implement your own appearance options, but something really has to be done here.

If some of these options are available, then I apologize, but they are not apparent how to access them.

    Thanks so much!

  10. Emote Shop

Users will be able to purchase emotes in an "Emote Shop". Streamers can choose how much to charge for each of their emotes. The user can purchase emotes from various streamers and will be charged monthly for a one lump sum per month, 3 months, 6 months, or unlimited time price. This will encourage revenue for streamers from people that don't want to pay the full subscription price. This will also make people want to collect emotes from different streamers. Perhaps a trophy system of some sort could be included with this system to encourage people to buy more emotes as well.

  11. Disable chat replay for videos

Some streamers have so much flooding/spam/trash in their chat that it slows down the browser and computer to the point it freezes.

  13. Abilility to mark anyone in chat with a badge.

This could be a customizeable badge that only shows up locally (other users cant see it). There are a few ways this can be useful such as:

    1. Being able to mark friends so you can see if they are chatting in the same room as you.

    2. Tagging yourself so your own messages can be seen easier in screenshots.

    3. Tagging the person you are chatting with in a busy channel so you can easily see their messages before they get buried under lines of spam. (Ablility to make it temporary maybe)

If you need to you can have it saved as a browser cookie so it is stored on the users machine so you could save server storahe space. Also if the badge is not customizeable there will eventually be a userscript that will let people change it.

  14. Let users see a list of channels they're banned from chatting in.

I guess it would make sense to put this somewhere in the User's settings, but it would be convenient for a user to see a list of all channels that they're banned from chatting in. Channels can currently see all the users who are banned from chatting in their channel, but what about a list of channels that have banned the user from chatting in their chats. This would also make it easier to figure out which channels to speak to and try to get unbanned from.

  15. Add chat moderation tools to mitigate serial ban evaders

Sometimes the chat experience is impaired by trolls continually and relentlessly creating/using additional alternative accounts to repeatedly circumvent any ban, return to chat, and continue spamming or harassing the channel.

I suggest that Twitch provide an additional set of moderation commands, capabilities, and information in the chat-related APIs and IRC interfaces to assist broadcasters and their channel bots to control abuse in these types of situations.

Some ideas for suggested channel Moderator Commands/Options to Add:

    • "Approved" chatters list - A List/Hash table of unlimited size for any users manually approved by a moderator to chat plus a list of all the users who have in the past already sent a chat message to the channel before and not been Banned or Purged since their last message.

    • Two-Levels of Approval that can be applied to any Chatter: (1) Automatic/Normal, (2) Validated by Channel Extension or AddOn, and (3) Moderator-Sanctioned Approval
An "Approved-Users Only Chat Mode", for emergencies, separate from Followers-Only chat that can be set to either Level 1, 2, or 3.
An additional option for FollowerOnly,SubOnly, EmoteOnly chat to make "Approved" chatters exempt that can be set to either "Level 1", "Level 2", or "Level 3" Approved chatters.

    • Option to Require Two-Factor Enabled on non-Mod Twitch accounts to send chat messages (Essentially, the chatter will have verified one step beyond e-mail address).

** Suboption to exempt users from 2fa requirement "just to chat" who meet another criteria such as "Subscribed, Approved Level 1, Approved Level 2, Approved Level 3, Chatted here before, Prime/Turbo user, or Account older than X days"

/GBAN - "Ghost Ban" / "Stealth Ban" - The same exact usage as the traditional /BAN command; However, when chat messages by affected user are purged the CLEARCHAT IRC message will be restricted to users not affected by a ban -- No chat connections from the user affected by the ban will receive any feedback or user-interface change showing that offending messages have been removed, nor that they are now affected by a ban. Everyone else in the channel will see the CLEARCHAT / <message deleted> entries for the Ghostbanned user. If the GBAN'ed user tries to send additional messages to the channel, the server should simulate that they have gone through successfully.

/WBAN <user> [<{IP|SUBNET|SITE}>] [<{EMAIL|EMAILDOMAIN}>] [<LEVEL>] - "Watchlist Ban" - A type of automatic ban based on details watchlisting - but a channel should be limited to a small number of entries, and the target user must already be Timed-Out, Normal-Banned or Stealth-Banned. A copy of the target account's IP Address, Subnet/24 or IPv6/64, Site /16 or IPv6/32, Email Address, Email Domain, Hash of payment account Id, Etc are recorded in a Hash Table of "Watch" items for the channel - The first time a new user who has never messaged the channel sends a message, their account items are checked for matches in the Watchlist hash tables, and if there is a match on a selected watch item: the new account is automatically added to the Banlist or Gbanlist - ONE TIME Only, and channel moderators should be alerted through the modlog.

An approval level is Attached to the WBAN, and Chatters at the level or Higher than the level specified are exempt from Watchlist checks.

Some ideas for suggested capabilities to Add:

    • IRC Tags for chat messages that allow a channel bot to see immediately when a chat message is the "First Ever" in that account's history: chat message a new user sent to the channel, including the account's creation date.

    • 3rd party external app/extension based approval of new chat users. Allow a channel to optionally require new users who join a channel for the first time to chat: grant permission for access to email and IP address data and interact with channel "Access Control" overlay extension that will provide an approval before a new chatter can post ther very first chat message (That may involve answering questions, acknowledging additional rules or policies, or verifying info, may be immediate approval, or delayed approval).

  16. Chat Notes/Pinned messages

I think it would be a great idea if the streamer or moderators could put a message/note above the chat to notify people. Whether it's temporarily for a minute or left there for the whole day.

Especially with bigger streamers who have a chaotic chat. A note or announcement can quickly be pinned at the top and everyone can quickly click on it and/or read it (a little pin symbol would be fitting I suppose).

Additionally, it can get annoying for streamers to have to answer the same questions over and over again. That's why I think a little note at the top is a good idea. The viewers can view that instead of typing a certain command in the chat or bothering the streamer.

I suppose a quick way to do this would be to type /pin xxx
Example: /pin Tomorrow is the subscriber tournament! Don't miss out!
Example: /pin Yes I have played (insert game here) already stop asking :)

Thank you in advance if this gets taken into consideration.

    Peace, Vorty

  17. Chats activity shown on VOD's timelines.

Everytime something funny or cool happens on the stream, chat goes crazy with emotes/messages. Usually bigger streamers stream for 4-8h, so it's hard to find time to watch the whole VOD. I think it would be a good idea to show chats activity on the VOD's timeline, so you could quickly check best moments of the stream, without spending majority of your day watching it. For example it could be represented with bars like music on soundcloud or somethinng like this.
Thanks for reading, hope it havent been suggested yet.

  18. A reminder when trying to communicate with a blocked user

One of my Twitch friends inadvertently blocked me. He would send me whispers, but I couldn't reply. Every time I attempted to reply, I would see the message "That user's settings prevent them from receiving this whisper." It would be helpful if a similar message was displayed for a Twitch user whispering someone he or she has blocked - "You're whispering someone whom you've blocked. That person is unable to whisper back to you."

Also, it seems as though blocking someone from whispering automatically blocks receiving a DM from them. In situations where someone was blocked inadvertently, it would be helpful if it was a separate step to block receiving DMs from them.

  19. Stop "Conversations" Tab from Covering Video Options in Theater Mode.

Currently, clicking theater mode causes the new "conversations" button to stay on the screen over the buttons to click out of theater mode, and the go to full-screen. I'm sure this is not the intended feature. Please fix this.

  20. Place chat window below video.

It would be helpful for using Twitch in a portrait mode to allow chat to occupy the bottom of the screen. Often while using Twitch I like to snap the window to half of the display, and use the other half for other tasks.

Right now I have to pop-out the chat, which is a little clunky.

In addition, it would be handy if the divide between the video and the chat was resizeable, so I could make chat bigger or smaller, and have the video automatically resize.
