Adding pronoun information to chat

For people who are trans and/or non-binary, letting streamers know your pronouns in chat so that your gendered correctly can either be awkward or difficult. An option for people to add their pronouns in brackets beside their usernames or in their profile cards in chat might help to let the streamer and/or chat know if a user feels it's important.

    What about usernames? I have never heard of a streamer using pronouns in general, for one because gender doesn't really matter at all on twitch and it's hard to make up from the context anyway, so everyone is just as likely to be misgendered, and you also never really refer to someone in 3rd person.

    But even aside from that, pronouns are just stupid. You can ask someone to call you by your proper pronouns or put it in any message you write if you really care so much.

    But the real solution is to stop being so incredibly sensitive and accept things for the way they are. If you get uncomfortable when you're called by your prefered pronouns, it's not because of the fact that others might not be with you on what your gender is. It's because you yourself, don't believe in it enough.

    You don't get confidence or get better in general from everyone treating you exactly the way you want. So stop asking everyone else to adapt to your needs and then blaming them for not complying when you don't feel comfortable in your own skin.

    Most trans people have more issues going on, and not being accepted by society (which I don't even think is what's happening most of the time when you're misgendered) is rarely the major cause of their problems. That can't be enough to explain why trans people have significantly higher suicide rates.

    I don't believe the world will be better if we ban criticism and comedy about sensitive subjects and start putting overweight and transgender people on a pedestal, even going as far as saying everyone else is less worthy or their opinion is invalid, as we see with racism right now.

    Surely things like this might be able to help, and I can imagine it must feel good to be considered and thought about at least, but restructuring all social media platforms or even the entirety of society in such a critical way, to make it more inclusive to exceptions, which is what you are in the end, isn't really a solution as far as I'm aware.

    That's basically the same as redesigning all gloves to fit 6 fingers just to be inclusive to those that have 6 fingers. Sure, it will solve their problem, make them feel included, and it doesn't really take anything away from us, but it's not really a solution. I want to offer them gloves that have room for 6 fingers, and I want to offer you the acceptance that you so crave and call you the way you want to be called, but shaping society to encompass all exceptions isn't what we should be looking for. Let's celebrate our differences and open up to eachother about them instead of saying we're all the same and equal when we're simply not.

    This is so important for people to feel included and seen. Pronouns of all kinds need to be normalized and this is a simple yet massive step in doing so. It also allows streamers to properly address their viewers without accidentally misgendering them. As the amount of trans people using this platform continues to grow, it is more vital than ever to make sure they feel welcome in a place that's meant for people to have fun and relax.

    People are incorrectly calling this "inclusive" it is definitely not. This excludes people who do not belong to your dogmatic ideology. In other words, you just want to be inclusive of people in your own social circle/beliefs and cast out the rest. And, like I said, that is not inclusive. So where is the vote down button?

    I understand the reasoning behind this, but ya'll know that Streamers, especially ones with very active chats or ones playing games that need focus don't always have the option/ability to check ya'lls profiles to see this info right?

    If this is an issue that bothers you, ya'll know you can always edit your usernames too include this right?

    Besides, in my years of watching twitch, most streamers always refer to people as "chat" or by a users profile name... that's not true of all channels of course, but please realize that this might be demanding too much from twitch streamers.

    Otherwise, why not just find an lgbtqia friendly streamer with a smaller community and a discord? Most streamers I've found with the lgbtqia friendly tag have discords where you can chose pronouns.

    Voting regardless because I do support the idea. I just hope ya'll realize that it'll be difficult in a way for both streamers and viewers to be happy.

    The only argument against this is that people might target and harass people who have chosen to do this which is banable anyways. Upvote!

    This is incredibly easy to implement, as we've seen from third-party extensions.

    Inclusivity is important to Twitch, or so it claims, so this is an important step!

    We've already seen with the user made Chrome Extension that this is something that would definitely be helpful on Twitch, but it means that everyone would need to use Chrome when using the platform.

    Surely there's a simple solution that Twitch can deploy?
