Implementing a "ninja mute" for trolls, muting without them knowing they are muted on stream.
So we are getting some pretty nasty trolls now, pretty unfiltered stuff and because one of our streamers is female, the trolls are amplified with horrific stuff.
They really take away the fun chat between our regulars as well while they are defending our streamer. So i'd like to suggest a mute person in the channel, but the person muted has no idea they have been.
So in theory when they are "muted" they can post in the chat and whisper others but it will only be seen by them while the rest of the chat will not see anything posted by the person. So the troll bro thinks he's great, but nobody can see what he says effectively silencing him. It will slow them down in making a new account, it's the idea behind it, by not providing them a notification or much indication from the chat that it has happened.
All we find is we ban one guy and 3 pop up again and mention that they got banned using it as a badge of honor.
What do you say, i get that this might not be possible, I don't have enough viewers to make chat sub only but i'm a huge target for people harassing our streamers because we are small fries.
This is ripe for abuse. Check reddit for examples.
I understand this might be hard for twitch to implement but I support the idea of a 'Shadowban' (as it's called on reddit or a hellban. There might not seem like much reason to do this from Twitch's point of view but this would certainly cut down on toxic areas as well as streamer stress.
I don't see this as ever being implemented by Twitch. First of all, it will increase their support costs, because people will get hellbanned, and then they'll complain to Twitch asking why chat doesn't seem to work.
And what about people who end up being banned for relatively minor infractions, like accidentally using too many CAPS in a message? You'll end up hellbanning users who are otherwise well-behaved, and they won't have any clue about it, which ends up being a really *terrible* user experience.
What you're asking for is commonly known as a Hellban: http://blog.codinghorror.com/suspension-ban-or-hellban/.
I've been asking for more anti-troll features as well, if you want to check them out, they're linked in my feedback history in my profile.
